The Rules of Prohibiting Ragging


Ragging within or outside of educational institutions is strictly prohibited. Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1999 prohibits ragging in educational institutions in the state of Maharashtra.

Whoever directly or indirectly commits, participates in, abets or propagates ragging within or outside any educational institute shall, on conviction, be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extent to two years and shall also be liable to a fine which may extent to Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand).

Any student convicted of an offence under section 4 shall be dismissed from the educational institution and such student shall not be admitted in any other institution for a period of five years from the date of such dismissal.

The All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi vide its Notification no. 37-3/Legal/AICTE/2009 dated 25-03-2009 has taken a very serious view of ragging incidences in educational institutions and on Directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India vide its Order dated 16.5.2007 has ordered strict implementation of rules & regulations for prevention and prohibition of Ragging in technical Institutions.

Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the Anti-Ragging Committee of the institution, the possible punishments for those found guilty of ragging at the institution level shall be as per above notification.
